Decorating Kids’ Room

There are so many products and ideas to decorate a room for a newborn baby. Many parents spent months creating a perfect nursery room before the baby is born. And what happens when kids get older? Many of us are just caught in a cycle of shopping for more and more storage for toys. And in time gorgeous nursery rooms transform into huge toy chests. But if we look around there are plenty of products on market that can help us to create beautiful and functional kids’ rooms.

Jungle_gym_knightIf your kids’ room is big enough, you can install DreamGYM Indoor Jungle Gym. Children will have a blast climbing ladders, scaling monkey bars, swinging on a trapeze bar, or doing flips on gym rings right inside their rooms. Kids can temporary convert their jungle gym into a fort or a castle by simply hanging blankets around the gym. My kids like to play in a hammock pretending that they are sailors lost in a sea. If space is limited you can install a climbing wall or hang a hammock chair for reading or relaxing.

There is another great Canadian company I came across recently Beetling Design – the original creator of a first of its kind 3D decor that transforms any room into a spellbinding adventure. The decor is designed to inspire imaginative play and create a fun and safe place for children to interact. This corporation presents a new way to decorate your child’s room or play area. Beetling three dimensional wall art is safe, hand crafted, easy to install (and reinstall) and because it’s light weight it can be shipped world wide at low prices. Beetling Design is 100% Canadian, the design and manufacture everything in Coquitlam B.C. (Canada) and all of their materials are non toxic and locally sourced. Here are couple examples (feel free to visit their website to see more designs http://www.beetling.com): Read the rest of this entry »

Therapy Gym – Monkey Bars in Barrie, ON

Monkey Bars for Therapy room

Monkey Bars for Therapy room

On a last day of January 2009 we installed the therapy gym in one school in Barrie, Ontario. They were looking for monkey bars to add to their occupational therapy room, because one of the boys in their care needed a tool to develop upper body strength. But I am sure other children will benefit from the monkey bars too.

It was a custom made structure. Due to limited space they have we couldn’t offer them a jungle gym with wall bars.  The wood choice was soft maple which looked terrific. Concrete walls helped us to eliminate the whole phase of “stud finding”.

There are eight eye hooks under the monkey bars. You can see a rope ladder attached to two of them. Right now they use only a rope ladder, but they can always extend their therapy gym with a platform therapy swing, children hammock, gym rings, disk swing and any other accessory. With a help of quick links you might have  a lot of different configurations.

Certainly, children will love this place.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery

We knew it was going to happen one day. We’ve got a great product, that other people might want to reproduce. Look at the pictures below, it is like a game “Find ten differences”

These people did not only stole the idea, they literally created an identical product. But the biggest concern that their product is not up to American Standards. I can name at least three places with possible head/neck entrapment just looking at the picture. We put so much effort in designing our indoor jungle gyms as safe as possible. We spent thousands of dollars on safety testing. Every measurement is crucial. Even a half inch difference may cause strangulation hazard.  I hope our customers will spot the difference and make the right choice.

What is Indoor Jungle Gym?

Playground in Winter

Playground in Winter

Imagine: A sunny summer Sunday morning. You woke up full of energy and plan to spend time with your kids in a park on a playground enjoying every single moment of it. But by the time you are ready to get out, the weather is starting to change and promising sunny day becomes rainy reality. Kids are upset because they wanted to spend time there. Yes, it is a small structure, but kids just love swinging, climbing, sliding, etc.

You feel stuck at home. You have to wait for rain to stop and for a playground to dry out. And not too many options are available for kids to be active at home, unless you turned your living room into bouncing castle. In winter it is getting even worse. It would be great to spend all time outside tobogganing, skiing, skating, but the reality is we have too few days good for a play outside. There is always something: freezing rain, extreme cold alert, heavy snowfall, wind-chill, etc.

And while you watch how your kids using your living as a gymnasium, you might think that you have no choice, this is life. But here is an idea. Or should I say “The IDEA”. You can have your own indoor playground inside your house. There are so many options!

You can convert your whole basement or spare bedroom into a custom jungle gym with climbing wall, monkey bars, sliding pole and hammocks for little pirates.

Or you may choose to install a small gym in kids’ room. Basic model of an indoor jungle gym needs only 4’ x 6’ of floor space. It comes with wall bars, monkey bars, gym rings, rope ladder and trapeze bar. And it can be updated at any moment with climbing wall, vertical climber with a rope, and many other accessories.

But if you think you don’t have enough space, don’t get discouraged! There are some options that we can offer that won’t take up a lot of space. You can mount a vertical ladder (wall bars), rock climbing wall, or a vertical climber with a rope (ship ladder) on a single wall. All of these items can be installed alone or combined with others.

If you have happened to have hammock that you use outside during summer, it is possible to use it inside.

We will talk about how to use “Indoor Jungle Gym” as a “Therapy Gym” in next posts.

Stay tuned.
